Adding User Accounts In Windows Vista

Windows Vista is the operating system with which Microsoft introduced radical changes in the operating system’s user interface. If you have only one user account in the home or office PC and more than one person is using the PC, then it is pretty easy for a misdemeanor to access your personal data. In order to avoid this situation, the best method is to create new user account in the computer. Follow the instructions given below from Windows support site for creating a new user account in your computer.

Instructions

  • Move the mouse pointer to the bottom left corner of your taskbar found at the bottom of the screen and then click on the Start menu button located there.
  • When the Start menu appears, click on the option named Control Panel found at the right hand side pane.
  • When the Control Panel windows opens, look for the option named User Accounts And Family Safety and click on it.
  • Now a new window will open up, in which you can see an option named Add Or Remove User Accounts, click on it and then on the Continue button.
  • In the window that appears, click on the Create a New Account link and then type a name for the user in the box found at the top of the window.
  • From the next option, select whether you would like to create a Standard account or Administrative account. If you would like to get full control over the system, then selecting the Administrator account will be good. However, if you would like to create only a standard account with less provisions, select the Standard option. If you select the Standard option, you will not be able to make changes to the system’s security.
  • After selecting the type of account, click on the button named Create Account in the bottom of the window.
  • Click on the account you just now created and click on the Create A Password option for creating a password for the account. Choose a password for the user and then click on the Create Password option button found at the bottom of the window for saving the password created.

If you follow the simple instructions given above, you will be able to create a new user account in the computer with ease. If you are not familiar with the process of account creation, visit the Windows support site for getting step by step instructions along with video tutorials.

Windows 8 Tablets - Preview For Firefox

Microsoft, the undeniable King of software, has been a world leader in software products for many years now. In that time, they have seen success like no other company. Among the successful products, the Windows Operating System series is what catapulted them to unparalleled popularity in the software universe. Windows 8 is one of the latest operating system software recently introduced by the Software Giant.

Mozilla, the free software community which produces the Firefox web browser, has long delayed releasing Firefox for Windows 8 tablets. However, the happy news is that the Mozilla foundation has finally made its first public appearance outside of the relatively obscure and quite unstable Nightly development channel. As the foundation or community announced today, the chrome-less tablet version of Firefox that actually runs on Windows 8’s Metro/Modern User Interface mode, is present in the Aurora release channel. After that it will arrive in the stable release version which will be here sometime late January 2014. A lot of the Microsoft support channels are being bogged with enquiries into this.

Firefox no more includes interface elements that typically line our browser windows, just as the Metro version of Internet Explorer. However, instead of that, it uses certain swipe gestures and two large buttons on both sides of the screen. You might observe the + button on the right is for opening new tabs, and the one on the left is the back button.

The free browser uses the same Gecko rendering engine as you see being used in the desktop version, and also includes support for Mozilla’s asm.js and WebGL, for high-performance JavaScript apps.

Just as Chrome for Modern UI or Internet Explorer for Modern UI, Firefox for Modern UI does not share bookmarks, passwords, or history with the desktop version. Instead of that, the users have to use Firefox Sync or other tools, used for Synchronizing or sharing information between the two browsers. However, if you are wondering, the Modern UI version is mostly similar to any other third-party browser, as it would not run on Windows RT.

The Mozilla community has stressed that this is obviously a pre-release version. It seems that the Mozilla support team feels the user interface is available; however, as per today’s announcement, the team plans to focus decidedly on enhancing performance and responsiveness. Obviously you could try it for yourself; you just need to download the latest Aurora version of Firefox. After that, you require to make sure to make it your default browser.

If you have problems setting this up, try and avail yourself of Mozilla support for this version of the browser. And if the problem lies with Windows, then get in touch with Microsoft support to fix the issue on that end.

Troubleshooting Tips For DVD Playback Problems In Windows 8

A DVD or Digital Versatile Disc is an optical storage medium. It offers more of a storage capacity than the compact discs even though it is of the same size. Windows 8 users now face a problem where the presence of optical drives is not detected by the Operating system.
This happens whether the user gets the OS installed directly, or they upgrade to it from a previous version like Windows 7. This results in the drive not appearing in either the Windows Explorer or the Device Manager.
A permanent solution for this Windows 8 issue is still not available. Meanwhile, users can try out these alternate methods to make the DVD drive work on their system. Before you begin with the procedure, remember to check the optical drive cables, if the device you have the OS loaded on is new.

Method 1

First, open the command prompt from the Start menu. This is done by going to the Start Screen and typing in CMD and pressing the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Enter simultaneously. This causes an elevated prompt to appear, and you might have to click OK to confirm access past the User Account Control.
In the prompt that has now appeared, paste the following command and then hit the Enter button.
reg.exe add “HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesatapiController0″ /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0×00000001
After you have pasted the above command into the prompt, reboot the system and you will find the DVD drive visible in the Computer and the Device Manager.
If you find that the above method was not successful in dealing with this Windows 8 issue, then try the next method.

Method 2

This method uses a free utility that can be downloaded and installed on the system. This software is called the CD-DVD Icon Repair.
This tool is really handy and very easy to use. It was designed primarily to run on Windows 7, but has been observed to work just fine on Windows 8 OS as well. Run the program and click the Repair CD-DVD button. Restart the computer and the DVD drives will now be visible in the Windows Explorer as well as in the Device Manager.
These are the methods used to deal with the problem of undetected DVD drives on a Windows 8-run computer system. For further queries or doubts, contact the Microsoft Support Center.

  • In a mailbox that is located on the server. Your mailbox will be on a server if you use Outlook with Microsoft Exchange Server.
You can use a backup of your .pst file to restore or move your Outlook data if you experience a hardware failure or lose data unexpectedly.

Learn About Outlook 2013 Address Books

Microsoft Outlook lets you manage your different email tasks easily and efficiently. When it comes to email management, you will be required to keep much personal contact information and email addresses in your email application. Microsoft Outlook uses its Outlook Address Book to maintain this data.
Here in this section, we will discuss about the different Address Books being used in Outlook 2013. Microsoft Outlook 2013 uses several Address Books that are really part of the Microsoft Exchange Server. The Address Books have several separate, independent lists of names and e-mail addresses, which can be confusing. Microsoft has simplified the issue of dealing with Address Books in Outlook 2002 and later versions, but that does not help if you use Outlook on a large corporate network.

Microsoft Outlook 2013 Address Books

The Outlook Contacts list contains all kinds of personal information, whereas an Address Book focuses on just e-mail addresses. Microsoft Outlook makes use of its Address Book to deal with the nitty-gritty details of actually sending your message to people on your corporate e-mail system, especially if that system is the Microsoft Exchange Server. Here are the different Address Books that you use in Microsoft Outlook.
The Global Address list: If you are using Outlook on a corporate network, the Global Address list, which your system administrator maintains, normally has the names and e-mail addresses of everyone in your company. The Global Address list allows you to address an e-mail message to anybody in your company, without having to look up the e-mail address.
The Contacts Address Book: The Contacts Address Book is the e-mail addresses from the Contacts list. Outlook automatically populates the Contacts Address Book so you can easily add people to a message you are sending when you click the “To” button.
Additional Address Books: If you create folders for Outlook contacts, those folders also become separate Address Books. Your system administrator can create additional Address Books as well, and if you connect Outlook to services like LinkedIn, your LinkedIn contacts may appear as a separate Address Book, too.
Anyhow, you do not need to know what an Address Book is most of the time - you just type the name of the person you are e-mailing in the “To” box when you compose a message. Microsoft Outlook automatically checks the name for spelling and then pulls the corresponding email address and sends your message.
Go through the Outlook help menu, if you want to know more about the Outlook Address Book and its purposes.

Find Your Local IP Address In Windows 7

Your computer will have an IP address assigned when it joins an Ethernet network, so that the network can locate your computer easily. It allows you to communicate with other computers residing on the same network.
Majority of the computer users need not worry about their IP Address as the DHCP of their local Internet service provider does the job for them. However, for people such as system administrators, knowing the IP address is important. You can follow these Windows Tech Support guidelines to retrieve the IP address of your computer.
Instructions:
  • One simple method to access your IP address is by navigating to the Windows Command Prompt interface. To open the Command Prompt, click the Start button, select All Programs and then click Accessories. Finally, select the Command Prompt option from the list.
  • An alternative method to open the Command Prompt window is by clicking the Start button and then typing CMD into the Search box field found in the Start menu.
  • You will receive a window with a prompt (C:\Users\username>) on your screen. Type ipconfig into the Command Prompt window and hit the Enter key, to run the command.
  • You will receive a long list of information on your Command Prompt window out of which IP4 Address is your internal IP address that is used by your computer to communicate with your local network. The IP address of your computer is a numerical representation, which looks similar to 192.168.1.100.
  • So if you find it difficult to use the command line interface, you can switch to the Control Panel method. Open your Control Panel window, double click on the Network and Internet option and select the Network and Sharing Center. Then click on the Change adapter settings link located at the top left corner of the window.
  • Select the type of network, which is either Wireless Network Connection or Local Area Connection by double clicking on the link.

If you have any further doubts on this, contact the Windows tech support team and get more assistance. You can also find related topics on the Windows Help menu.

How To Reinstall Outlook 2002 On Windows XP, Vista And Windows 7

We all know that Outlook is invaluable as a desktop email client, doing away with the need to open the web browser, navigate to the mail address, and log in to it, whenever you want to check your mail.

Outlook Express is a version of Microsoft Outlook, which comes as part of a bundle of software called Microsoft Office. The components of Microsoft Office might sometimes need to be installed and reinstalled, owing to the corruption of files or program components. Outlook repair generally entails the re-installation of the program, and here is how you go about it properly.

Perform Outlook repair and reinstall in Windows XP

If you are a user of Windows XP and need to reinstall Outlook 2002, then you can try to repair the installation first. Navigate to the control panel of your computer and then double click on the Add or Remove Programs option.  Find the entry for Microsoft Outlook in the list, and then select change/remove. Follow the instructions provided in the disk to complete the procedure successfully.

Perform Outlook repair and reinstall in Windows Vista

Synchronise Your Blackberry Phone With Microsoft Outlook

You can access your Outlook account information on multiple mobile devices. The synchronisation will be smooth if you have the Windows operating system or a  variant on these devices and your personal computer. When some proprietary software is used in any of these devices, there could be some problems with the synchronisation.

Blackberry OS

Blackberry OS is the operating system used in all blackberry mobile devices. The OS supports many third party software and mail applications. The Blackberry phone comes with Blackberry Desktop software for maintaining and synchronising documents, mail and contacts. It provides the option to synchronise Blackberry with some of the applications in your computer.

From Outlook email

You could try re-installing or updating the Outlook express. Before you run the.exe file, just make sure that the Blackberry device is connected to the system. When the new Outlook email setup is run for the first time, it will ask you to prompt the synchronisation of Outlook Express to the connected device.

Desktop Manager Error

Uninstall the Blackberry Desktop software. Go to the C drive and access Add or Remove programs list from the Control panel to make sure that the program is completely removed. Check whether there are any previous editions still showing in the list. Remove all these software manually. Go to the Program Files folder and delete any of the related folders and restart the system. Now re-install and run the Desktop manager and try the synchronisation.

Problem due to the security software

Sometimes the anti-virus software or the firewall installed in your system will deny the Outlook email setup access to the Blackberry device. You should temporarily disable anti-virus and firewall programs to see whether this was the reason for the synchronisation failure. If that is the case, go to each of these programs and change their configuration settings to allow the proper synchronisation between the devices.

Wrong Calendar files

If you have another calendar or mail application installed in your system, the Outlook calendar files might fail to synchronise with the Blackberry. This is because the Blackberry device is programmed to accept the synchronisation request from just one Calendar file in the system. So go to the Options menu for Devices in Blackberry and under Advanced settings, set Outlook as the Default Service.

Conflict Resolution

Sometimes the synchronisation process causes data duplication. In the desktop manager, launch the Organizer wizard and open its configuration settings. Under the advanced options menu for Outlook, select the Ignore all conflicting items option.

Now your Outlook mail is successfully synchronised with your Blackberry device and you can access all your contacts and calendar entries on the go.

Ensure that the disk where you are trying to move files has enough free space. If it doesn’t have the required space, it cannot accommodate the files in question. Simply delete the unwanted files in the disk to create space for the files you want to move. Search fort large files and then execute the delete operation.
If that fails to deliver results, make a new folder in the device you are trying to move the files to. Then attempt to move the files to the newly created folder. At times you will not be allowed to move files if the target folder has too many files or if files carry lengthy names. So this issue can be resolved by moving the files to a new folder in the same drive.
If there is not enough RAM to perform the moving operation, you will get an error message. Freeing up the space by rebooting your system will free up the RAM and resolve the issue you are facing with moving files.

Troubleshoot Outlook Using Email Transaction Logging

Microsoft Outlook’s user-friendly tools and features allow users to handle their multiple email accounts easily and efficiently. But what if you get a puzzling popup error message on your computer screen? You may now be completely clueless as to what to do next. In such a situation, when you don’t have any idea what really happened and what caused the error, the best option is to look into the log that Outlook had created automatically. Outlook creates a detailed list of all the activities in its log file which helps its users to track unusual activities taking place within the Outlook. By looking into this log data, you can pinpoint the problem yourself or at least show it to someone who has some knowledge about it.
Outlook logs all activities including its communication with Exchange, POP, SMTP, IMAP and Hotmail
servers. Below are the troubleshooting steps for Outlook problems with transaction logging.

How to turn on email logging for Outlook troubleshooting

  • Launch the Microsoft Outlook on your computer.
  • From the toolbar menu, click on “Tools” and then select “Options”.
  • When you get the “Options” window, click on “Other” tab.
  • Select “Advanced Options”.
  • Check to see if “Enable logging troubleshooting” or “Enable mail logging troubleshooting” is enabled. If it’s not enabled, mark the checkbox beside it. Click “OK” twice when it prompts to.
  • Now exit the windows and restart Microsoft Outlook.

You need to check if you still have the same problem persisting. Try to send or receive email and check if it reproduces the error. If it generates the same error, go back and uncheck “Enable logging troubleshooting” or “Enable mail logging troubleshooting” to disable it.

How to find the log file

Finding the log file is a bit more tedious task as compared to enabling or disabling the transaction logging.

  • Go to “Start” menu and click “Run”.
  • Type “%temp%” into the Open text field and click “OK”.
  • From the “Temp” folder, locate the folder for POP and SMTP. Locate the file “OPMLog.log”. This is the log file for POP and SMTP.
  • Locate the “Outlook Logging” folder within the Temp folder and open it.
  • Open IMAP folder and locate the files, “imap0.log”, “imap1.log”. These are the log files for IMAP.
  • Open the “Hotmail” folder within the folder “Outlook Logging”.
  • Locate the files “http0.log”, “http1.log” which are the log files for Hotmail service.

These log files help you to find the exact reasons for many Outlook problems which then in turn help you fix those problems.
