Resolving Vista Connectivity Issues

Making use of a wireless connection with your desktop can be tricky. Since the desktop is not portable like your desktop, if the wireless network is a quite a distance from your desktop, getting connectivity could be a problem. If you face Vista problems regarding WI-FI connectivity, you need to follow the provided guidelines below.

Instructions
  • If you are not able to get proper connectivity, the antenna has to be adjusted. For getting the appropriate range, the desktop has to be moved to a location where there is sufficient coverage. Walls and ceilings can hamper connectivity. If an external wireless card is used, plug it into another port.
  • By making use of a signal booster or a wireless access point/repeater, you can increase the signal strength to a great extent. For a desktop, a signal booster or wireless access point/ repeater will help immensely in getting improved connectivity, and repeaters come in handy for all devices that make use of wireless connectivity.
  • If proper connectivity is not attained, it may be due to issues with the network card. However, the network adapter can be repaired easily in a few steps. In the taskbar, the Network icon can be seen. All you have to do is Right click it and choose the Diagnose And Repair option.
  • The driver should be up to date. In order to make your driver up to date, in the taskbar, the Start button can be seen. Click it and the Start menu will pop up. In the search field that is present, input Device Manager and tap the Enter key.
  • Now the Device Manager window will appear on the screen.
  • By clicking the + symbol, the network adapters can be expanded. Your wireless adapter has to be double clicked. The tab by the name Driver can be seen. Click it and choose Update Driver. Choose the Uninstall option if the updated driver cannot be detected by Windows.
  • Now restart the system.
  • The driver will be detected by Windows Vista and the driver will be installed and driver will work fine with any hiccups.

Adding User Accounts In Windows Vista

Windows Vista is the operating system with which Microsoft introduced radical changes in the operating system’s user interface. If you have only one user account in the home or office PC and more than one person is using the PC, then it is pretty easy for a misdemeanor to access your personal data. In order to avoid this situation, the best method is to create new user account in the computer. Follow the instructions given below from Windows support site for creating a new user account in your computer.

Instructions

  • Move the mouse pointer to the bottom left corner of your taskbar found at the bottom of the screen and then click on the Start menu button located there.
  • When the Start menu appears, click on the option named Control Panel found at the right hand side pane.
  • When the Control Panel windows opens, look for the option named User Accounts And Family Safety and click on it.
  • Now a new window will open up, in which you can see an option named Add Or Remove User Accounts, click on it and then on the Continue button.
  • In the window that appears, click on the Create a New Account link and then type a name for the user in the box found at the top of the window.
  • From the next option, select whether you would like to create a Standard account or Administrative account. If you would like to get full control over the system, then selecting the Administrator account will be good. However, if you would like to create only a standard account with less provisions, select the Standard option. If you select the Standard option, you will not be able to make changes to the system’s security.
  • After selecting the type of account, click on the button named Create Account in the bottom of the window.
  • Click on the account you just now created and click on the Create A Password option for creating a password for the account. Choose a password for the user and then click on the Create Password option button found at the bottom of the window for saving the password created.

If you follow the simple instructions given above, you will be able to create a new user account in the computer with ease. If you are not familiar with the process of account creation, visit the Windows support site for getting step by step instructions along with video tutorials.

Windows 8 Tablets - Preview For Firefox

Microsoft, the undeniable King of software, has been a world leader in software products for many years now. In that time, they have seen success like no other company. Among the successful products, the Windows Operating System series is what catapulted them to unparalleled popularity in the software universe. Windows 8 is one of the latest operating system software recently introduced by the Software Giant.

Mozilla, the free software community which produces the Firefox web browser, has long delayed releasing Firefox for Windows 8 tablets. However, the happy news is that the Mozilla foundation has finally made its first public appearance outside of the relatively obscure and quite unstable Nightly development channel. As the foundation or community announced today, the chrome-less tablet version of Firefox that actually runs on Windows 8’s Metro/Modern User Interface mode, is present in the Aurora release channel. After that it will arrive in the stable release version which will be here sometime late January 2014. A lot of the Microsoft support channels are being bogged with enquiries into this.

Firefox no more includes interface elements that typically line our browser windows, just as the Metro version of Internet Explorer. However, instead of that, it uses certain swipe gestures and two large buttons on both sides of the screen. You might observe the + button on the right is for opening new tabs, and the one on the left is the back button.

The free browser uses the same Gecko rendering engine as you see being used in the desktop version, and also includes support for Mozilla’s asm.js and WebGL, for high-performance JavaScript apps.

Just as Chrome for Modern UI or Internet Explorer for Modern UI, Firefox for Modern UI does not share bookmarks, passwords, or history with the desktop version. Instead of that, the users have to use Firefox Sync or other tools, used for Synchronizing or sharing information between the two browsers. However, if you are wondering, the Modern UI version is mostly similar to any other third-party browser, as it would not run on Windows RT.

The Mozilla community has stressed that this is obviously a pre-release version. It seems that the Mozilla support team feels the user interface is available; however, as per today’s announcement, the team plans to focus decidedly on enhancing performance and responsiveness. Obviously you could try it for yourself; you just need to download the latest Aurora version of Firefox. After that, you require to make sure to make it your default browser.

If you have problems setting this up, try and avail yourself of Mozilla support for this version of the browser. And if the problem lies with Windows, then get in touch with Microsoft support to fix the issue on that end.

Disabling Password Change Prompt In Windows Vista

Windows Vista is the operating system that started the retro look of the Microsoft operating systems. The operating system has various features incorporated in it that allow users to set a time for a specific password. Mostly, the password needs to be changed at regular intervals by default. The system will prompt you to change the password after a regular interval. However, there is provision in the Widows Vista operating system for removing the password changing prompt. Follow the instructions from Windows Vista help center given below for disabling the password change prompt from your system.

Instructions

  • Open the Run dialog box in the Windows Vista operating system by pressing the Windows and R keys in the keyboard simultaneously. Alternatively, you can open the Run box by clicking on its tab found in the Start menu.
  • When the Run dialog box appears, click on the text field found in the box and then type in the keyword secpool.msc in it and then press the Enter key in the keyboard to open the Local Security Policy window.
  • In the window that appears, look for the Security Settings tab and then click on it to expand it.
  • Now look for the Password Policy option found at the left side pane of the Local Security Policy window under the Account Policies option.
  • Now you will be able to see an option named Maximum Password Age in the right side pane of the window, double click on the option to change the maximum period for which the set password is to be used by the system.
  • Now a dialog box of the name Maximum Password Age Properties appears in the screen, look for the field named days and then type in 0 in the text box found next to the days field.
  • Now you will be able to see a message stating that the Password Will Not Expire above the option.
  • Now click on the OK button found at the extreme bottom of the window to save the changes you have made to the settings with the help of the Windows Vista help instructions.

If you follow the simple instructions given above, you will not be receiving messages from the Windows Vista computer prompting you to change the password of the system after a few days. If you are not able to change the settings and remove the password change prompt from your system, feel free to contact the Vista support team.
