Disabling Password Change Prompt In Windows Vista

Windows Vista is the operating system that started the retro look of the Microsoft operating systems. The operating system has various features incorporated in it that allow users to set a time for a specific password. Mostly, the password needs to be changed at regular intervals by default. The system will prompt you to change the password after a regular interval. However, there is provision in the Widows Vista operating system for removing the password changing prompt. Follow the instructions from Windows Vista help center given below for disabling the password change prompt from your system.

Instructions

  • Open the Run dialog box in the Windows Vista operating system by pressing the Windows and R keys in the keyboard simultaneously. Alternatively, you can open the Run box by clicking on its tab found in the Start menu.
  • When the Run dialog box appears, click on the text field found in the box and then type in the keyword secpool.msc in it and then press the Enter key in the keyboard to open the Local Security Policy window.
  • In the window that appears, look for the Security Settings tab and then click on it to expand it.
  • Now look for the Password Policy option found at the left side pane of the Local Security Policy window under the Account Policies option.
  • Now you will be able to see an option named Maximum Password Age in the right side pane of the window, double click on the option to change the maximum period for which the set password is to be used by the system.
  • Now a dialog box of the name Maximum Password Age Properties appears in the screen, look for the field named days and then type in 0 in the text box found next to the days field.
  • Now you will be able to see a message stating that the Password Will Not Expire above the option.
  • Now click on the OK button found at the extreme bottom of the window to save the changes you have made to the settings with the help of the Windows Vista help instructions.

If you follow the simple instructions given above, you will not be receiving messages from the Windows Vista computer prompting you to change the password of the system after a few days. If you are not able to change the settings and remove the password change prompt from your system, feel free to contact the Vista support team.
